Road Modernization Project for 11 Islands Awarded to Road Development Corporation

The Ministry of Construction has announced the awarding of a major road modernization project spanning 11 islands across the Maldives. The contract has been granted to the Road Development Corporation (RDC), which will oversee the construction and upgrading of main roads in these key locations.

The project aims to improve infrastructure, enhance connectivity, and support economic growth in island communities by upgrading existing road networks to modern standards.

Islands and Project Budgets

The following islands and their respective road projects have been included in this initiative, along with the allocated budget for each:

  • T.H. Guraidah Main Roads – MVR 74 million

  • T.H. Main Roads in Kinbi – MVR 79 million

  • M.Sc. Muli Main Roads – MVR 85 million

  • HA. Main Roads in Thiruvananthapuram – MVR 65 million

  • Hd. Nochivaranfar Main Roads – MVR 101 million

  • T.H. Hiriland Main Roads – MVR 70 million

  • B. Main Roads in Thiruvananthapuram – MVR 70 million

  • J. Maroni Main Roads – MVR 60 million

  • Hd. Main Roads in Phineas – MVR 65 million

  • N.S. Main Roads in Mafar – MVR 116 million

  • B. Kudarikilu Main Roads – MVR 53 million

Government’s Vision

The Construction Ministry emphasized that these upgrades will not only improve transportation but also boost local economies, tourism, and accessibility for residents.

“Improving road infrastructure is critical for sustainable development in our islands. This project reflects our commitment to enhancing the quality of life for island communities,” said a Ministry spokesperson.

Project Timeline

Construction is expected to commence soon, with timelines and detailed plans to be shared by the RDC. The government aims to complete the upgrades efficiently while minimizing disruptions to daily life.
