Residents Complain of Irregular Garbage Collection by WMCO

Residents in Malé have raised concerns over irregular waste collection services provided by the Waste Management Corporation (WMCO), with some reporting that garbage has not been collected from their homes for several days.

A resident who spoke to Miharu News on Thursday said that WMCO has not collected garbage from any floor of his building for the past four days, despite repeated requests.

“The garbage is piling up. No one from WMCO has come to collect it in days,” the resident said, adding that the delay is causing health and hygiene concerns for families living in the area.

Widespread Complaints

Several other households in the capital have also reported similar issues, with some saying WMCO employees are failing to follow scheduled pickup times, particularly in multi-storey buildings.

Residents are urging authorities to look into the matter urgently, warning that continued neglect could lead to sanitation problems, especially in densely populated neighborhoods.

WMCO Yet to Respond

As of this publication, WMCO has not issued a public statement addressing the complaints. Attempts to contact the corporation for comment were unsuccessful.
