Government Hands Over Health Center Projects to PHE Corporation in Three Island

The Maldivian government has officially handed over the development and upgrade works of health centers in three key villages of the province to Public Health Engineering (PHE) Corporation, marking a significant step in improving healthcare infrastructure in the region.

Under the new agreement, PHE Corporation will take full responsibility for:

  • Construction of a new building for Hithadhoo Health Center

  • Upgradation of the Maroshi Health Center

  • Upgradation of the Donfanu Health Center

These initiatives are part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen primary healthcare services, especially in remote and underserved communities.

“Improving access to quality healthcare remains one of our top priorities,” said a Health Ministry spokesperson. “Partnering with PHE ensures that these projects are delivered with efficiency, quality, and community focus.”

Project Scope and Timeline

  • The new Hithadhoo Health Center will feature modern medical facilities, upgraded patient wards, and better accessibility.

  • Maroshi and Donfanu Health Centers will undergo significant infrastructure enhancements, including expanded service areas, new equipment, and improved emergency care facilities.

The timeline and budget for the projects are expected to be finalized in the coming weeks, following a detailed implementation plan from PHE Corporation.

Boost for Regional Healthcare

Residents in the three villages have long called for better health services. Once completed, the upgraded centers are expected to improve medical response times, reduce patient travel to larger hospitals, and ensure more reliable access to essential healthcare.
